Enable the Ensemble Mashup in Blackboard

Description

Ensemble is a media hosting platform where users can store and share multimedia files (e.g. video and audio). Ensemble is integrated with Blackboard, making it easier to upload and insert multimedia content from Ensemble into your Blackboard course sites. To use the Ensemble integration the Ensemble Mashup tool needs to be enabled in your course.

Inserting Ensemble Mashups in Blackboard

Step 1: Enabling Ensemble Mashups

  1. Go to the Blackboard course where you would like to enable Ensemble mashups.
  2. Scroll down to the Course Management section in the left-hand navigation menu.
  3. Click the small arrow next to Customization and select Tool Availability
  4. Scroll down to Ensemble Video (LTI) and ensure that the check box on the far right is checked.
  5. Directly above the Ensemble Video (LTI) option, you should also see Ensemble Video (In Text Editor). Check the first box (far left) next to it.
  6. Click Submit in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Adding an Ensemble video to your course using the mashup.

  1. Go to the content area in your Blackboard course where you would like to insert the video.
  2. From the Build Content dropdown menu, click Item.
  3. Give your item a name (required) and enter any additional description information in the text editor box.
  4. Click the  button from the text editor toolbar.
  5. Click Ensemble Video from the Additional Tools menu.
  6. Note: If you do not see the option, you may need to expand the toolbar by clicking the  symbol in the upper-right corner of the text editor.
  7. A pop-up box will appear with your Ensemble content. Locate the video you want and click Choose under the video preview.
  8. Select the Choose Media option in the next window and click Save
  9. Your video will be inserted into the text editor box. The Ensemble video you selected will now appear on your content page.

Strategies for Using Video for Course Materials

  • Ensure that videos are accessible by providing captioning and transcripts. Ensemble can automatically generate captions for your videos, and you can edit them to be sure the speech recognition technology has properly captioned your content.
  • Videos are a great way to model complex processes for your students or to work through difficult concepts or problems.
