Change default programs in Windows 10

Issue/Question

Sometimes when you click a link or try to open a document in Windows 10, the computer may not use the program you want to use. From the default app settings in Windows 10, you can change things like the default browser, mail app, as well as the program you use to open PDF's.

Environment

Windows 10 computers. 

Resolution

  • Click on the Start button (Windows Icon) on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen and type in Default App Settings and press Enter
  • The Default apps list shows Mail, Maps, Music, Photo viewer, Video Player, and Web Browser 
  • If you want to change the default application, click the category and then select the app from the drop down.
