Using Okta Verify for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Question

  • How do I use Okta to log in after setting it up?

Environment

You will use Okta Verify as a second factor when signing in to most Bowdoin services, unless another factor has been setup.

Resolution

After following the instructions to set up your Okta Verify (see the Related Articles section, browse to login.bowdoin.edu in your web browser or go to any Bowdoin service that supports it directly, such as Canvas, Campus Groups, etc.

1. Enter your Bowdoin username and password.

2. Once signed in, you will get a prompt to either enter a code or get a push notification from Okta Verify.

3. If you choose to enter a code, go to your mobile device and open the Okta app. There, you will select the 👁️ icon, at which point, Okta will need a verification using either a face ID or a fingerprint scan.

            3a.  Type this code into the window in your browser and click Verify.

4. If you choose to get a push instead, you will receive a notification from the Okta application.

 4a. If your screen is unlocked, you can tap the notification to be sent to "Did You Just Try to Sign In?" and select Yes, It’s Me.

    4b.  iOS users can also verify from the lock screen if configured by tapping and holding the notification. Once the options appear, tap Yes, It’s Me. Android users can access the notification from the lock screen but will need to unlock their phone first.
