Questions
- I have purchased / received a new iOS device (iPhone / iPad) and I need to add Okta Verify to the new device.
- I have a new iPhone and need to add Okta Verify to it.
- My old device replaced due to loss or damage, how can I re-enroll Okta Verify?
- I deleted the Okta Verify app but need it to sign in, how do I set it up again?
NOTE:
There is no self-service way to reset your MFA if you do not have your old device, it still works, and has not yet been erased or if you have an alternate multi-factor device, such as Touch ID on a MacBook Pro, or Okta on an iPad, configured.
If you do not have another factor set up already, you must contact the Service Desk or go to the Tech Hub during regular business hours for assistance.
Environment
- Staff, Faculty, or Student account.
- Want to add an additional iOS device as a multi-factor device
Resolution
Re-enroll Okta Verify or add a new device (old phone (factor) not available)
Due to heightened security issues, there is no self-service way to re-enroll Okta Verify on a device if it is the only device configured for use with MFA. This includes replacing the device, deleting and re-installing Okta Verify, or refreshing a device.
You must either come to the Tech Hub in person or contact the Service Desk by phone at (207) 725-3030 during business hours, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST. An agent will setup a video call to verify your identity.
Add an additional iOS device to your Okta account (old phone (factor) still available)
If you already use Okta Verify and want to setup your account on an additional device, you might be able to start a new enrollment from the Okta End-User Dashboard. This will only work if you either have:
Both the old device and new phone or iPad
-OR-
Have a factor other than Okta Verify from your old phone (such as Touch ID, Google Authenticator, another device such as an iPad, etc.) setup to be able to log in.
For step-by-step instructions, please visit Okta's documentation.
Add a new iOS device to your Okta account (old phone (factor) available)
You can use your old phone to make a Bluetooth connection to your new phone, which will allow you to transfer your Okta Verify data and security settings. This requires you have access to BOTH phones.
Follow the steps from Okta to perform this migration.
