Environment

Bowdoin College offers four wireless networks:

  • BOWDOIN and eduroam – Primary networks for students, faculty, staff, and Emeriti. Guests from other institutions can also use eduroam.
  • BOWDOIN-GUEST – For visitors without a Bowdoin account. Limited access. Requires name and email to join.
  • BOWDOIN-PSK – For devices that don’t support WPA2 Enterprise (e.g., gaming consoles). Requires registration and a special password.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to connect your Android phone to the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless network.

  1. Tap the Wi-Fi icon in the notification bar and select BOWDOIN or eduroam.
  2. If previously connected, tap and hold the network name and choose Forget this network.
  3. Set the following advanced options:
    • EAP method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
    • CA Certificate: Try the following options in order based on what your device supports:
      • Trust on first use – tap Trust if prompted
      • Use system certificate
      • No certificate – if available
    • If available, switch MAC address type to Use device MAC under Advanced settings.
  4. Enter your authentication details:
    • Domain: bowdoin.edu
    • Identity: Your Bowdoin username
    • Password: Your Bowdoin password
    • Anonymous Identity: Leave blank
  5. Tap Connect. Your device should now join the network.
