Install Jabber on Macintosh

System requirements

  • Apple OS X El Capitan 10.11 (or later)

Installation on Bowdoin-issued Computers

  1. Open Managed Software Center, located in your Applications folder.
  2. Search for "Jabber" or "Cisco Jabber"
  3. Click Install
  4. The Cisco Jabber application will download and install itself.

Installation on Personal Computers

  1. Download Cisco Jabber for Mac.
  2. Double-click the  downloaded file from your browser and then double-click the Install_Cisco-Jabber-Mac.sparkle_guided.pkg file to  start the Cisco Jabber installer wizard.

  3. When the Welcome screen displays, click Continue.

  4. Read the license agreement if you wish and then click Continue. Click Agree to accept the terms of the license agreement and continue with the installation.

  5. You may be prompted to select the disk where you want to install Jabber. Select your hard drive and then click Continue

  6. Click Install to perform the standard installation.

  7. At the prompt, enter your administrator account password for the Mac and click Install Software.

  8. When the software has finished installing, click Close.

Sign in

  1. To launch Jabber, open your Applications folder and double-click the Cisco icon.

  2. Under "Advanced Settings", Turn OFF the "Connect to Server Automatically" option
  3. Select the "Communications Manager 9+" connection option.
  4. Enter in "" for the server address.
  5. Type in your Bowdoin ID (email) and tap Continue.

  6. Enter the password you use to log into, unless you were provided with a password by IT specifically for Jabber. Two-step authentication may be required.

Sign out

  1. Click Jabber in the Apple menu bar and then click Sign Out.
