Environment
This article applies to Bowdoin College students and faculty using a college-issued iPad with a personal Apple ID. You must be signed in with an Apple ID to download apps from the App Store. If you do not yet have an Apple ID, see Create an Apple Account in the Related Articles section before continuing.
Resolution
Download a free app
- Open the App Store app on your iPad.
- Tap Search at the bottom of the screen and type the name of the app you want.
- Tap the app in the search results to view its page.
- Tap Get next to the app. If prompted, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password to confirm the download.
- The app will install and appear on your home screen.
Download a paid app
- Open the App Store app and find the app you want to purchase.
- Tap the price button (for example, $2.99).
- Tap Buy App and authenticate with Face ID or your Apple ID password.
- Payment will be charged to the payment method associated with your personal Apple ID.
Tip: Many apps needed for coursework are available for free through the Self Service app, which is installed on all Bowdoin iPads. Check Self Service before purchasing an app — it may already be available at no cost. See Apps for Bowdoin-Issued iPads in the Related Articles section.
Note: Bowdoin IT does not reimburse personal app purchases. Apps purchased with your personal Apple ID are yours and are not managed or supported by the IT Service Desk.
