- How do I sign out of "Find My" in macOS?
- I've been told to sign out of iCloud on my Mac, how do I do that?
Environment
Find My is a useful feature for macOS that helps you locate your Mac if it’s lost or stolen. However, there might be situations where you need to turn it off, such as when needing to repair the device. A client can also sign out of iCloud to turn off Find My and remove all iCloud saved data from the machine.
Resolution
Turn off "Find My Mac"
- Click on the Apple Menu and open System Settings.
- Click on the Apple Account name in the top left of the window.
- Select "iCloud" from the list on the right.
- Click See All if Find My Mac isn't listed on the page.
- Click on Find My Mac and then click Turn Off
- You may be asked to provide your Apple ID password and your computer password. Enter them as requested.
- Once "Find My Mac" is turned off, click done.
Turn off "iCloud"
- From the Apple Account page click on the Sign out... button located bottom of the list and follow the prompts to sign out of iCloud.
Additional Tips
- Backup Your Data: Before making any significant changes it’s always a good idea to back up your data.
- Sign Out of iCloud: If you are selling or giving away your Mac, make sure to sign out iCloud completely.
- Factory Reset: Consider performing a factory reset to ensure all your personal data is removed from the device.
