Question
How do I view HEIC images on a Windows computer?
Environment
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container and is a new, space saving image format developed by Apple and used by Apple and others, across various hardware devices. Apple iOS/iPad OS devices running the latest software, will have their default image format set to HEIC. While Apple products can open .heic images without additional software, Windows computers need additional software to view HEIC files.
Resolution
ImageGlass is a free image viewer that can open and display HEIC files in Windows. ImageGlass-HEIC Viewer is available in for self-service install on Bowdoin-issued computers using the Company Portal app. See the related articles section for information about using Company Portal.
- After installation, launch ImageGlass and complete the setup.
- We recommend not setting ImageGlass as the Default Photo Viewer.
- The application will open a default picture.
- Double click an .heic file to display the image in ImageGlass.
