Question
- I have been approved to audit a class and have to set up my account, what do I need to do?
- I am auditing a class and need to setup an auditor account.
- I received an email with instructions from the Registrar's Office about my auditor account, what do I do now?
Environment
When someone from the community signs up with the Registrar's Office to audit a class, and are accepted, they will receive information about how to setup their Bowdoin account for the first time. This account is used to access Canvas and other digital materials, and is provided a mailbox in Microsoft 365 to correspond about class-related topics.
All Bowdoin accounts are protected by MFA or multi-factor authentication. A smartphone is needed in order to setup their account with our MFA provider, Okta.
Resolution
Follow these steps in order to setup a Bowdoin auditor account for the first time.
- All auditors will receive an email from the Registrar's Office. This email has an attachment with instructions as well as a link in the email.
- The instructions on the attachment will be used shortly, but first, click the link in the email message. This link will open the 1Password website.
- Enter the email address that the message from the Registrar's Office was sent to and click Send code.
- An email will be sent to the email address entered with a code. On the screen that loads, enter the code provided and click See item.
- The auditor account number and first-time password will be shown. Make note of these as they will be needed on the rest of the setup.
- Open the instructions provided from the attachment in the email message. These instructions are a guide to setting up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) and signing in to an auditor account the first time. The are similar to our new student account setup process.
