Enrolling in Okta Verify for new accounts

Description

All new Bowdoin accounts require multi-factor authentication (MFA). Bowdoin uses a tool called Okta Verify which is an app that will be downloaded to a mobile device. Once downloaded, the app will be enrolled with Okta when a Bowdoin account is first setup.

Environment

Step 1: Download Okta Verify

Download and install Okta Verify for iOS/iPad OS or Android devices.

Step 4: Set Security Questions and Responses

You will now be asked to choose or create a security question and answer that can be used as an option to reset your password if forgotten.

  1. You must now create a security question and answer that can be used as a method to reset your Bowdoin password, if needed. Click Setup

  2. Either choose a pre-set security question or create one of your own. Provide an answer and click Verify

  3. Once your questions are setup, additional multi-factor options are shown. These are not required at this time. You can set them up at any time in the Settings of your Okta account. Click Set up later

Step 5: Provide a Secondary, non-Bowdoin Email Address

You will be asked to provide a secondary (non-Bowdoin) email address. This may present itself as optional but we do want everyone to complete this information. By providing an alternative email address, if you need to have your password reset and do NOT remember your security questions, your reset links are sent only to this listed secondary email address.

  1. Enter a secondary (non-Bowdoin) email address and click Finish

Okta window asking for a secondary email address to be entered in the field provided.

  2. Check your email account for a verification email and instructions.
