Summer break is upon us and lab and classroom refreshes will soon be underway.
Classroom and Lab Computers
The following lab computers will be replaced this summer starting in early July.
Those responsible for the computer labs will be notified ahead of time as they have in the past.
Classroom Computers
All classrooms will be refreshed starting June 10, 2024. This process will remove all data.
If you need any data on these computers please back it up using OneDrive, Microwave or external hard drive before June 10, 2024

Software Changes
Mathematica
As part of our effort to offer secure access to software anywhere you are located Mathematica licensing will be switching in June from a License Manager to Single Sign-On. This will enable anyone at Bowdoin to access Mathematica using their Bowdoin Credentials. More information can be found in related articles section on the right.
MATLAB
As part of our effort to offer secure access to software anywhere you are located MATLAB licensing will be switching in July from a License Manager to Single Sign-On. This will enable anyone at Bowdoin to access MATLAB using their Bowdoin Credentials. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
ArcGIS Desktop
ArcGIS Desktop software was officially listed as End of Life in March of 2024. The application has not been updated in several years and will not received security updates. ArcGIS Desktop will be retired and has been replaced with ArcGIS Pro. More information can be found in related articles section on the right.
Nvivo 12
Nvivo 12 has not been updated since July of 2021 and is not receiving security updates. Nvivo 12 will be retired and has been replaced with Nvivo 14.

Virtual Lab Desktops
Data Removal
To prepare for the fall semester all data on the Lab Virtual Desktops will be deleted on June 10, 2024.
If you need any data on these virtual desktops please back it up using Microwave or OneDrive before June 10, 2024.

Virtual Lab Desktop Specs
New Lab Virtual desktops will be built and become available in June. The existing virtual desktops will stay running until that time. No hardware changes will be made.
Spring 2024 Setup:

NC4as T4 v3 (4 vcpus, 28 GiB memory and 1 GPU)
- Premium SSD Hard Drives
- Generation 2 virtual desktops.
- Virtual Desktops are not shared so each user will have the best experience.
- Use of Scaling Plan which gives us the ability to provide more desktops when we need them and power off unused desktops when we don't.
- A list of software that is available in the virtual lab has been updated to reflect titles that will be installed for the fall.
