Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students using LibreChat in a modern web browser on macOS or Windows. It covers creating, using, organising, and removing items in the Prompt Library — LibreChat's tool for saving and reusing prompts across conversations.

Resolution

Add a prompt to the Prompt Library

  1. Open LibreChat and click the panel icon in the upper-right corner to open the right-hand panel.
  2. Select Prompts from the panel drop-down to open the Prompt Library.
  3. Click + Create Prompt.
  4. Enter a prompt name.
  5. Enter the main text of your prompt.
  6. (Optional) Add placeholder variables using double braces — for example, {{topic}}, {{audience}}, or {{current_date}}. When you use the prompt, LibreChat will prompt you to fill in each placeholder before sending.
  7. (Optional) Add a short description to help identify the prompt later.
  8. (Optional) Create a backslash command — a short keyword (for example, /summary) that triggers this prompt from the chat message box.
  9. (Optional) Assign a filter category (such as Writing, Research, or Code) to organise prompts by type.
  10. Click Create Prompt to save.

Use a saved prompt

  1. Open the Prompts panel in the right-hand column.
  2. Click the prompt name to load it into the chat.
  3. If the prompt has no placeholders, the chat submits automatically.
  4. If placeholders exist, fill in the fields shown and click Submit to send.

Use backslash commands

If you assigned a backslash command when creating a prompt, you can trigger it directly from the chat message box:

  1. In the message field, type / to display a list of your saved commands.
  2. Select a command from the list to load its prompt automatically.

Delete a prompt

  1. Open the Prompts panel.
  2. Click Manage.
  3. Click the trash can icon next to the prompt you want to remove.
  4. Confirm by clicking Delete.

Search and filter the Prompt Library

  • Use the search box to find a prompt by name.
  • If a filter category was assigned when the prompt was created, click the filter icon and select the category to narrow the list.
