Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin College students, faculty, and staff using SPSS on macOS. The steps below cover two workflows: saving your raw data file, and exporting output (results, graphs, and charts) to PDF.

Note: SPSS for macOS does not support exporting raw data directly to PDF. To share raw data as a PDF, first export it to Excel, then print or export from Excel to PDF.

Resolution

Step 1 — Save your data file

Before exporting output to PDF, you must first save your data so that it is available in the SPSS Viewer.

  1. In the main SPSS data window, click File in the menu bar and choose Save As…
File menu with the Save As option highlighted.
  2. Enter a file name and choose a save location, then click Save.
SPSS Save Data As dialog box with options for file name, file type, variables, and encryption, with the Save button highlighted.

Step 2 — Export output to PDF

After saving, a Viewer window will open. This window contains all output you have generated, including results tables, graphs, and charts.

  1. In the Viewer window, select the item or items you want to export to PDF.
  2. Click File in the menu bar and choose Export…
File menu dropdown with the Export option highlighted.
  3. In the Export Output dialog, change the Document Type drop-down to Portable Document Format (.PDF).
  4. Enter a file name and choose a save location.
  5. Click OK to export.
Export Output dialog window showing document type set to PDF, with file name field and OK button.
