Dell Laptop Displays Message at Boot - "You have plugged in a lower wattage power adapter..."

Summary

Dell laptops with power connected through an Anker, USB-C multi-port adapter may display the following message when booting:  You have plugged in a lower wattage power adapter, USB-C charging device, or power pass-through device.   Your system will continue to work, but may not perform at it's peak.

Issue/Question

Dell laptops with power connected through some USB-C adapters may display the following message when booting:  

"You have plugged in a lower wattage power adapter, USB-C charging device, or power pass-through device.   Your system will continue to work, but may not perform at it's peak."

Environment

This is a known issue when some Dell laptops charge through certain USB-C adapters. You can continue to use the laptop without damage by following the steps below.   

Resolution

  • In the upper right corner of the window, check the box next to: Do Not Show Again
  • Click Continue
