Environment

This article applies to all Bowdoin College students, faculty, and staff using a Bowdoin-issued Windows 11 device. It covers installation of IT-approved software using the Intune Company Portal app.

  • Supported OS: Windows 11 (Bowdoin-issued devices)
  • Not in scope: macOS software installation — for Bowdoin-issued MacBook Pro, use Jamf Pro Self Service instead. Personal (non-Bowdoin) Windows devices are best-effort only and may not have Company Portal available.

Resolution

Open Company Portal

  1. Click the Start button (Windows logo) in the taskbar or press Windows on your keyboard.
  2. Type Company Portal in the search bar.
  3. Click Company Portal in the search results to open the app.
Note: If Company Portal does not appear in search results, it may not yet be installed on your device. Contact the Service Desk using the options in the Additional Help section below.

Find and Install an Application

  1. Once Company Portal opens, click Apps in the left-hand navigation panel to browse all available software.
  2. Use the Search box at the top of the screen to search for a specific application by name.
  3. Click on the application you want to install to open its detail page.
  4. Review the app description to confirm it is the software you need.
  5. Click the Install button on the app detail page.
  6. Company Portal will begin downloading and installing the software. A progress indicator will appear on screen.
  7. When the installation is complete, the button label will change to Installed or Open. This may take several minutes depending on the size of the application and your network speed.
Done: Once you see Installed or Open on the app page, the software has been successfully installed on your device. You can launch it from the Start menu or from within Company Portal.

Check Installation Status

  1. In Company Portal, click Apps in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click the Installed tab to see a list of applications that have already been installed on your device.
  3. If an app you installed does not appear or shows an error, try closing and reopening Company Portal, then check again. If the problem persists, contact the Service Desk.
Important: Company Portal only lists software approved and packaged by Bowdoin IT. If you need an application that is not listed, submit a request through the Service Catalog. Do not attempt to install unlicensed or unapproved software on Bowdoin-issued devices.
