Environment

This article applies to:

  • Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students
  • Bowdoin-issued MacBook Pro computers running macOS Sequoia 15.x or Tahoe 26.x
  • Bowdoin-issued Windows 11 computers
  • The two PaperCut applications required for campus printing: PaperCut Client (handles sign-in and print job tracking) and Print Deploy (manages which printers you have installed)

Both applications are pre-installed on Bowdoin-issued computers and update themselves automatically. You only need this article if one or both are missing — for example, after a system rebuild, or if they were accidentally uninstalled.

For an overview of what each application does, see PaperCut Client and PaperCut Print Deploy in the Related Articles section. To install a printer (rather than the software itself), see How to install or delete a Bowdoin printer in the same section.

Before you start: You need to be signed in with your Bowdoin username and password, and you need to be connected to the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless network, or to the Bowdoin VPN. The installation will fail silently off-campus without VPN.

Install on macOS (Sequoia 15.x or Tahoe 26.x)

On Bowdoin Macs, both PaperCut applications are available through the Self Service app. Install each one using the same steps.

  1. Open the Applications folder on your Mac.
  2. Open the Self Service app.
  3. In the search field on the left, type PaperCut.

Self Service app on macOS showing a search for PaperCut with two results: PaperCutClient and PaperCut Print Deploy, each with an Install button.

  4. Click Install below PaperCutClient. The installation takes a few minutes. When the button changes to Re-Install, it’s done.
  5. Repeat the previous step for PaperCut Print Deploy.
No Self Service app? If you don’t see Self Service in your Applications folder, your Mac may not be enrolled in Bowdoin management correctly. Stop and contact the Service Desk — this needs to be fixed before PaperCut can be installed.

Install on Windows 11

On Bowdoin Windows 11 computers, both PaperCut applications are available through the Company Portal app. Install each one using the same steps.

  1. Open the Start Menu and search for or browse to Company Portal.
  2. Open Company Portal.
  3. In the search bar, type PaperCut.
  4. Click the icon for PaperCut Client, then click Install on the next screen. The installation takes a few minutes. If the button says Uninstall, the app is already installed.
  5. Return to the Company Portal search results and repeat for PaperCut Print Deploy Client.
Don’t see Print Deploy in Company Portal? Company Portal may think it’s already installed. Restart your computer and check Company Portal again. If it still doesn’t appear and you can’t find Print Deploy in the system tray, contact the Service Desk.
No Company Portal app? If Company Portal isn’t on your computer, your Windows 11 device may not be enrolled in Bowdoin management. Stop and contact the Service Desk — enrollment needs to be completed before PaperCut can be installed.
