Questions

  • How do I access Bowdoin resources from off campus using my iPad?
  • How do I disconnect from Bowdoin VPN on my iPhone or iPad?

Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff connecting to Bowdoin's VPN using GlobalProtect on an iPhone or iPad. GlobalProtect must already be installed before following these steps — see Install GlobalProtect VPN on a Bowdoin-Issued Computer or iPad or Install GlobalProtect VPN on a Personal Device in the Related Articles section.

You will need your Okta Verify factor available to complete sign-in.

VPN will not connect while on campus. GlobalProtect cannot connect while your device is on the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless network. Unlike on Mac or Windows, the app will not show an error — it simply will not connect. Switch to a cellular connection or a non-Bowdoin network to use VPN.

Resolution

First-time setup

The first time you open GlobalProtect, you will be guided through a short setup process to configure the portal address and grant necessary permissions.

  1. Find and tap the GlobalProtect app on your device.

  3. On the Your Privacy page, tap Continue.
  4. On the What's your portal address? screen, enter remoteaccess.bowdoin.edu and tap Connect.
  5. When prompted that GlobalProtect would like to add VPN configurations, tap Allow.
  6. Enter your device passcode when prompted.
  7. Tap Connect. GlobalProtect will retrieve its configuration settings from Bowdoin's servers.

Connecting on subsequent uses

  1. Open the GlobalProtect app and tap the shield icon on the main screen to connect.
