Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff connecting a Chromebook or ChromeOS device to campus Wi-Fi. Chromebooks are personal, best-effort supported devices at Bowdoin.

Bowdoin provides four wireless networks:

  • eduroam and BOWDOIN — For Bowdoin students, faculty, staff, and emeriti. eduroam also works for guests from other participating institutions.
  • BOWDOIN-GUEST — For campus visitors without a Bowdoin account. Provides internet access only.
  • BOWDOIN-PSK — For devices that cannot connect to enterprise wireless, such as gaming consoles. Requires registration.

Resolution

Credential tip: For eduroam, enter your full Bowdoin email address as your username (e.g., jdoe@bowdoin.edu). For BOWDOIN, enter only your Bowdoin username (e.g., jdoe). Your password is the same for both networks.
  1. Click the status area in the lower-right corner of the screen (where the clock is), then click the Wi-Fi icon.
  2. Click the arrow (>) next to eduroam or BOWDOIN in the network list. Do not click Connect directly — clicking the arrow opens the advanced settings panel required for this network type.
  3. In the connection panel, set the following:
    • EAP method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: Automatic
    • Server CA certificate: Do not check
  4. Enter your login details:
    • Identity: Your Bowdoin username (e.g., jdoe@bowdoin.edu for eduroam, or jdoe for BOWDOIN)
    • Password: Your Bowdoin password
    • Anonymous identity: Leave blank
  5. Click Connect.

Your Chromebook will save the network and reconnect automatically on future visits.
