Review Prerequisite Override Requests for Faculty

Overview of Process

Some courses have registration restrictions based on pre-requisites, required previous coursework, class standing, or placement scores. Restrictions are determined by the faculty and vary across the curriculum. Students can request a Course Section Prerequisite Override. Upon submitting the Course Section Prerequisite Override request, a task will route to the My Tasks box of the course section’s instructor or an Academic Department Coordinator (ADC) for approval if the assigned Instructor for the course section is on leave or terminated. 

 

Approve Course Section Prerequisite Override

  1. Select your My Tasks inbox. 

    Note: From your Workday Homepage, the Course Section Prerequisite Override task may also be accessible from the Awaiting Your Action section.

  2. Under All Items, select the Eligibility Override task.

    The My Tasks box displays. User clicks the All Items section and selects the Eligibility Override task.
     
  3. Click the Enter full screen mode button.

    User clicks the Expand button to view the Prerequisite Override Request in full-screen mode.
     
  4. Review the Details to Review section.

    The Details to Review section displays, detailing the student who requested the prerequisite override, the course section it was requested for, and the eligibility rule requested to be overridden.
     
  5. Scroll down to the Additional Information section and review the student’s questionnaire response.

  6. To approve the override request, click Approve. ​​
    • To send back the request to the student for more information, click the Send Back button.
      • In the To field, select the Revise Eligibility Override Event.
      • Enter a Reason.
      • Click Submit.

        User clicks the Send Back button. User selects Revise Eligibility Override Event in the To field, enters a Reason, and clicks Submit.

    • To deny the override request, click the … button and click Deny. In the Reason field, detail why you are denying the override request.
      Note: This will terminate the entire business process.
    • To exit the task, click the … button and click Cancel.

      Approve, Send Back, Add Approvers, Deny, and Cancel buttons display.

 

What Happens Next?

Upon clicking Approve, the task will route to the Department Chair or Program Director for approval. For the sake of departmental consistency and student equity, Dept Chairs/Program Directors will grant final approval in accord is standard department/program practice.

Note: In cases where a faculty member is not listed on the course, the approval will go straight to the Department Chair or Program Director. For music lessons, the Academic Department Coordinator (ADC) in the Music department will receive these requests in place of the Applied Music Instructor.
