How to access Microwave from a Bowdoin-issued and Non Bowdoin-issued computer

NOTE: All clients must be provided access to their department's network space after approval has been given. Access is not automatic. To request access, please fill out the file access request form.

If you are on a Bowdoin-issued Apple Laptop or a non-Bowdoin computer and are asked to authenticate, type in your username@bowdoincollege.edu (e.g., jsmith@bowdoincollege.edu) and then your email password OR in some cases you may need to type in bowdoincollege\username and then your email password

From a PC:

Windows 10 

  • Click on the Start button and click on the "File Explorer" link.

     
  • From the Explorer window, click on the "DEPT (\\MICROWAVE) (J:)" link on the left

     
  • Open the department's network space and navigate through the list of folders to your department and double-click on it to open it.
  • If the  department network space does not appear in Computer, click in the Search field
  • In the Search field, type "\\microwave.bowdoin.edu\dept\".   A DEPT on microwave window will open. 
  • Navigate through the list of folders to your department and double-click on it to open it.

From a Mac:

  • If the department network space does not appear on your Desktop, click on the Go menu
  • Choose Connect to Server
  • In the Server Address textbox, type smb://microwave.bowdoin.edu/dept/
  • Choose Connect
  • You will be prompted to login using your email username and password OR in some cases you may need to type in bowdoincollege\username and then your email password
  • dept folder will open on your Desktop.  Navigate through the list of folders to your department and click on it to open it.
