Fix the Slow Charging Notification on a Windows Laptop

Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin faculty and staff using Dell laptops running Windows 11 that charge through certain USB-C adapters. When power is connected through some USB-C adapters, the laptop may display a Slow Charging notification while plugged in. This is a known issue. The laptop charges more slowly but can be used without damage.

Resolution

Method 1: Connect the power adapter directly

  1. Connect the USB-C power adapter directly into the USB-C port on the laptop instead of through a multi-port adapter.

Method 2: Turn off slow charging notifications in Windows

  1. Type Settings in the search bar to open the Windows Settings app.
  2. Go to the Devices section.
  3. In the left pane, select the USB section.
  4. In the right pane, uncheck the box next to Notify me if my PC is charging slowly over USB.
