Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin community members using Speechify, a text-to-speech tool licensed by Bowdoin. Speechify is available as a web app, a browser extension (including Chrome), and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Resolution

Get access

Speechify is licensed by Bowdoin. Sign in with the account or method provided by Information Technology.

Not sure how to activate your Bowdoin Speechify access? Contact the Service Desk (see Additional Help below) to confirm how to sign in and activate your license before installing.

Listen with the browser extension

  1. Install the Speechify extension for your browser (for example, from the Chrome Web Store).
  2. Sign in with your Bowdoin Speechify account.
  3. Open the web page, article, or online PDF you want to hear.
  4. Select the Speechify button (or highlight text and choose Listen) to start playback. Text is highlighted as it is read.

Listen in the web app

  1. Go to the Speechify web app and sign in.
  2. Import content — upload a file, paste text, add a web link, or connect a cloud drive.
  3. Press play to listen.

Adjust voice and speed

  • Open the voice or settings menu to choose from the available natural voices and languages.
  • Use the speed control to slow down or speed up playback to a comfortable pace.

Use it on your phone

Install the Speechify app from the App Store or Google Play, sign in with your Bowdoin account, and add documents or scan printed pages to listen on the go.
