Question
- I received an email about being "subscribed to a pathway", what is this?
- Is this learning pathway email spam?
Environment
Members of the Bowdoin community may occasionally receive an email notification that they have been "subscribed to a pathway" as part of the college's Digital Badging program. This message is not spam and can be ignored if the recipient is not interested.
What is a Digital Badge Learning Pathway?
The Digital Badging program at Bowdoin allows individuals to earn badges by completing various learning pathways. When someone is subscribed to a new pathway, they receive an email notification with details about the badge and the opportunity to work towards earning it.
An example of the body of a message is shown below.
Resolution
These messages are not spam, and if someone is not interested, they can be ignored.
Setting Up a Badgr/Canvas Credentials Account
If the recipient is interested in the learning pathway, they will be asked to set up a personal Badgr/Canvas Credentials account, which is not tied to their Bowdoin account. This ensures the earned badges can be carried with the individual even after leaving the college.
The account creation process is straightforward, with all required fields marked. Once the account is created, the recipient can access the learning pathway referenced in the email message.
