Information
Over the past 2 years, Information Technology has been working to streamline and modernize our print management and printer fleet. Starting with the work done by Campus Services to replace our Ricoh printers, we have been working to ensure we have a good balance of printers in central locations to accommodate the most people, while also looking at ways to improve reliability, support, efficiency, and energy use.
Through the data we've collected, we are now able to intelligently replace most of the remaining shared-use, HP single function printers (SFP) with new, efficient Lexmark printers. With the help of Budget Data Technologies (BDT), we have been able to identify 44 printers that will be replaced, along with 12 that HP printers that will be removed as they haven't been used in the last 12 months.
During the week of August 12, BDT will be on-site to replace each of the HP printers. Once they've been configured, information will be sent about how to install the new printer onto your computer and what the name of the printer will be.
Upcoming Change Details
- 44 HP Printers will be replaced with Lexmark business-class printers with the same or similar functionality as they have now.
- 14 unused printers will be removed from service
- All printers will be managed through PaperCut but print release will not be required.
- Printers will be renamed to make it easier to identify them. They'll be named based on their location, similar to all Ricoh printers.
- Printers will be able to be installed through Print Deploy, just how the Ricoh printers are installed.
- Toner will be able to be requested through the Copy Shop, just like with Ricoh printers. You should NOT purchase toner through W.B. Mason, Staples, etc. for these printers.
- Support for these new printers will primarily be through BDT at no additional cost as they are under a new service and toner contract.
