Information about Apple Intelligence

Apple will introduce Apple Intelligence in their next operating system upgrade for iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. Like Microsoft's CoPilot, Apple Intelligence will serve as a coach inside your Apple devices and can suggest things like:

  • Writing emails faster and in the tone you want it to be.
  • Summarizing the main points of a long article or document.
  • Translation of words into different languages.
  • Using Siri for more advanced responses personalized for you.

When will people see Apple Intelligence on their Mac, iPhone, and iPad?

While Apple has not provided a specific date yet, Apple has confirmed that Apple Intelligence will be available in beta in October and will be included in a software update.

Will Bowdoin Apple computers and iPads automatically get this update?

When a major upgrade to an operating system gets released from Apple we typically wait a little bit for any bugs and issues to be fixed and stable. Apple will eventually require the upgrade. The latest upgrades for Macs, iPads and iPhones are available now but without Apple Intelligence features. Those will be released starting in October with new features released over several months. For those who want to try the upgrade for Mac earlier than October without Apple Intelligence features, contact the Service Desk and let us know!

Will I be prompted to enable Apple Intelligence or will it just turn on?

Apple Intelligence is built into the next major iOS, iPadOS, and macOS upgrade. We expect Apple will let you turn off the use of Apple Intelligence on your devices individually and will know more when when the upgrade comes out.

What models of computer, iPad, and iPhone will Apple Intelligence work on?

Apple Intelligence will only be available for certain models of computers, iPads, and iPhones. All student laptops will be capable of running Apple Intelligence.

Will Apple Intelligence have access to my Information?

Apple actually built an entire internal on-device processing operating system just for the purpose of protecting personal privacy. So it’s aware of your personal information without collecting your personal information.

What Apple says:

  • Your data is never stored
  • Used only for your requests
