What This Service Is
Once a hiring manager has committed to start the hiring process for a new employee in Workday, this form lets Information Technology know that someone new is joining, so we can prepare their account and any technology they'll need before they arrive.
Timing matters. A new employee's account is not created until at least three weeks before their start date and all HR paperwork is complete — sometimes only a few days before they arrive. Submitting this form early gives IT more time to prepare.
Who It's For
Hiring managers bringing on new staff, especially roles that will use technology on the job. This is an IT-preparation step that runs alongside the broader HR onboarding process — it does not replace any HR steps.
How to Get Started
Click the New Hire Request button and provide what you know about the incoming employee and their role.
Not What You're Looking For?
- If you need an account for a contractor, collaborator, or guest rather than an employee, use Other Bowdoin Account Types.
- If you're re-hiring someone whose account was disabled, use Employee Rehire – Enable Account under Faculty, Staff, and Student Accounts.
- If you need to order equipment for the new hire, that's handled through the hardware request services under Devices.
