Information
Zoom webinars are a special Zoom feature that allows for events of 100, 500, 1000 or larger groups. From Zoom's website
Think of webinars like a virtual lecture hall or auditorium. Webinars are ideal for large audiences or events that are open to the public. Typically, webinar attendees do not interact with one another. Though Zoom provides options for you to get more social with your attendees, your average webinar has one or a few people speaking to an audience.

To request a webinar license, please click Request License on the right. Be prepared to enter a project code where the license costs may be charged to.
Cost
There may be a cost for Zoom webinar licenses that have a higher attendee count (more than 500 attendees) as they are not a part of Bowdoin's Zoom licensing. Each license is charged per host (person) per month and is based on the number of attendees.
The costs are as follows:
Number of attendees |
Cost |
1000 |
$340 |
We have a small number of licenses that are shared. Charges would only be incurred if we need to purchase a license for a month if no licenses are available and there are no options to move the meeting or use other options.
Smaller webinars
Bowdoin owns a pool of webinar licenses for events under 100 attendees and events under 500 attendees. If your event is under either of these attendee counts, then there will be no cost to your department.
This is a shared pool of licenses. Any assigned webinar license will be removed from your Zoom account within two days after your event (or last event if requesting for a series).
Alternatives
As there is a cost for Zoom webinar licenses, there may be alternatives to consider. For groups less than 300, you could hold a standard Zoom meeting, as all Faculty and staff can host meetings for up to 300 people. You could also host an event in Microsoft Teams. Teams Live Events is included in our Microsoft Agreement and offers very similar functionality to Zoom webinars.
Licensing
There are a small number of licenses that may be available that can be "borrowed" for a short period of time. If we have a license available for the date requested and the number of attendees, a license will be assigned. Please note that the license will not be assigned more than 1 week in advance to ensure there are enough licenses to be shared among the groups looking for a license and it will be removed within 2 days following the scheduled event. The license will be assigned to the requester unless otherwise specified.
