Request a Teams Desk Phone

When to use this

  • You were offered a desk phone during onboarding but declined, and you have since changed your mind.
  • Your role has changed and now requires a desk phone — for example, you have moved to a reception or front-desk position.
  • You need a phone in a shared workspace, department lobby, or common area where calls should ring to a device rather than a personal computer.
  • You are setting up a new office and were not offered a desk phone as part of onboarding.

When not to use this

  • You don't have a Teams Calling number yet — phone numbers are assigned automatically at onboarding. If your Teams app has no dial pad, contact the Service Desk first to confirm your account is set up before requesting a physical phone.
  • Your existing desk phone has a hardware problem — use Report a Technology Issue to report a broken or malfunctioning phone rather than requesting a new one.
  • You need a conference room or shared meeting space phone — contact the Service Desk directly to discuss the best configuration for conference room phones, which have different setup requirements.
  • You need a department or shared line configured — shared line setup involves additional call routing configuration. Contact the Service Desk to discuss your department's needs.

Before you submit

  • Your office building and room number — needed for delivery and to register your Ethernet port in the emergency location (E911) system
  • Whether the phone is for personal use (tied to your Bowdoin account) or a common area (shared device not tied to a specific user)
  • Whether you need anyone else's calls to ring on your phone, or whether someone else answers calls on your behalf — this determines how the phone is configured

What happens next

A Service Desk technician will review your request within 1 business day and contact you to confirm delivery details and schedule installation. Desk phones are delivered and configured by IT — you do not need to set up the hardware yourself. Once delivered, follow the steps in Set Up Your Teams Desk Phone for the First Time to sign in to the device with your Bowdoin account.
