Questions

  • How do I install EMS?
  • I have been given permission to use EMS, how do I install the desktop application?
  • Where do I download the EMS desktop client?
  • How do I install EMS on a Windows computer without administrator rights?

Environment

This article applies to campus users who have been granted permission to view or update information in EMS, the college's classroom and event space booking software managed through the Events and Summer Programming Office. EMS is used to schedule and book classrooms, large meeting spaces, and events. There are two ways to access EMS: through the web at ems.bowdoin.edu and through an installed application on a Windows computer.

Resolution

All clients can install the EMS application without any assistance from Information Technology. The application can be downloaded and run by non-administrative users on Windows 11.

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://ems.bowdoin.edu/EMSDesktopWebDeploy.
  2. Read the instructions on the page and click the link provided to download 2 files: EMSApplication.exe and emswebdeployconfiguration.cfg.
  3. Once downloaded, browse to your download location (usually your Downloads folder) and double-click EMSApplication.exe to run the installer.
  4. When EMS launches, sign in with your Bowdoin username and password.
Configuration file blocked in Microsoft Edge? If you use Microsoft Edge, you may see an error that the emswebdeployconfiguration.cfg was blocked. Click the ellipses (...) next to the file name and choose Keep. This is an important file that helps configure EMS. If the file still will not work and you are asked for the URL when you run the installer, enter https://ems.bowdoin.edu/emsdesktopwebdeploy/ in the field provided.
Before you install, note the following:
  • You may need to allow popups, or you may be prompted to allow popups from the website, in order to download the application and the configuration file. Pay attention to any alerts and follow the instructions provided.
  • Both files must be in the same folder when you run the installer. If you move one of the files, the application will not install correctly.
  • This installation will not remove any previous version of EMS. It is recommended to delete any old shortcuts so you do not accidentally run an older version. At some point in the future, previous versions will be removed automatically by Information Technology.
