Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin College faculty and staff who use Teams Calling. The Call Park feature places an active call on hold and generates a numeric retrieval code. Any Teams user with the code can pick up the call from their own device.

  • Platform: Teams desktop app (macOS and Windows)
  • Common use case: Common area phones (shared phones not tied to a specific user) do not support direct call transfer. Call Park is the recommended method for routing calls from a common area phone to the appropriate person.

Resolution

Park a call (generate the retrieval code)

  1. While on an active call in the Teams desktop app, click the More button () in the upper-right area of the call window.
  2. Select Park call.
  3. A numeric code will appear on the screen. You can copy it to your clipboard using the copy button.
  4. Communicate the code to the person who needs to take the call — by phone, chat, or in person.
Note: Parked calls are held for a limited time. If no one picks up the call using the code, the call may ring back to you. Pass the code to the recipient promptly.

Pick up a parked call (retrieve using the code)

  1. In the Teams desktop app, click the Calls icon in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Parked calls below the dial pad.
  3. Enter the numeric code provided to you.
  4. Click Pick up to connect to the call.
Tip: The person picking up a parked call does not need to be on the same phone or device as the person who parked it — any Teams-enabled device with the correct code can retrieve the call.
