Environment

This article applies to anyone using a Mac when an app is blocked because it was not downloaded from the App Store or from an identified developer. This can happen when opening an app you trust that macOS warns about or blocks.

Resolution

Caution: Before bypassing this security block, be sure the app is from a trusted source and free of viruses and spyware. Overriding the block on an unsafe app can compromise your data and your computer.
  1. Attempt to open the app. If a message says the app is blocked, click Cancel.
  2. Open System Settings by clicking the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen and selecting System Settings.
  3. Select Privacy & Security.
  4. Scroll down to the Security section. You will see a message about the blocked app. Click the Open Anyway button next to it.
  5. Authenticate with Touch ID or your login password if prompted.
  6. When the confirmation dialog appears, click Open to confirm you want to launch the app.
  7. The app now opens and should run in the future without being blocked.
