Sending a Fax From a Multi-Function Device (MFD)

Questions

  • How do I send a fax from a printer that has PaperCut installed?
  • Where is the fax option on a PaperCut device?
  • Do I dial 9 first for an outside line when faxing?
  • How do I enter a phone number to send a fax with PaperCut?
  • Can I still fax now that PaperCut is installed on my printer?

Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin faculty and staff using a multi-function device (MFD) that has been configured by IT to support faxing. Not all MFDs on campus support fax — if the Fax button does not appear in the Device Functions menu, the device is not configured for faxing. Contact the Service Desk to confirm whether your device supports fax or to request fax capability.

Resolution

  1. Sign in at the MFD. Tap your Bowdoin OneCard ID on the card reader, or enter your Bowdoin username and password on the touch screen.

  2. Tap Device Functions on the main PaperCut screen.

  3. Tap Fax on the device functions screen.

  4. Enter the recipient's fax number. Tap Specify destinations, enter the phone number, and tap Finish. Alternatively, select a number from the device's saved destinations if one has been configured.

  5. Place your document in the feeder tray or on the scanner glass, then tap Start to send the fax.

Bowdoin dialing rules:
  • Off-campus numbers: Enter the complete 10-digit number — for example, 12077253030. Do not dial 9 first. Dialing 9 for an outside line is no longer required.
  • On-campus numbers: Enter the 4-digit extension only.
