Installing TopSpin

Issue/Question

• I would like to use TopSpin for my coursework or research. How do I access TopSpin?
• How can I download and install TopSpin on my computer?

Environment

TopSpin is available for macOS and Windows. A TopSpin account using a Bowdoin email address is required before you can use TopSpin.

Installing TopSpin in macOS

• Go to your Applications folder and open Self Service.
• Search for TopSpin and click Install. (Even though this says installing its actually only copying the installer to your computer.) 
• Once completeit will say reinstall. Please go to the Macintosh HS > Users > Shared >Topspin folder.
• Right click or ctrl click on TopSpin4.2.0.pkg and choose Open. 
• You will see it Verifying Topspin which could take a few minutes. 
• When you get a message that says macOS cannot verify the developer of Topspin are you sure you want to open it click Open. 

• Click Continue.
• Click Continue.
• Click Agree.
• Click Install.
• Enter your computer password when prompted and click Install Software.
• When asked for an NMR administrator password enter NMR next to Password and NMR next to Verify. Click OK.

• If asked about installing Xcode command line tools click Yes. (This process could take 10 minutes)
  • Click Install.
  • Click Agree. 
  • When its complete click Done. 
• If you see a message that says CodeMeter is damaged and can't be opened click Cancel. (You may have to do this three times)
• When you see Installer would like to Modify Apps on your Mac click OK.
• When complete click Close.
• Back in Macintosh HD > Users > Shared >Topspin folder double click on CMInstall.pkg.
• Click Continue three times. 
• Click Agree.
• Click Install 
• Enter your computer password when prompted and click Install Software.
• When complete click Close. 

Launch TopSpin in macOS

• Go to your Applications folder and open TopSpin.
• If asked Do you want to allow cprserver, cprclient or dataserver to accept incoming connections? click Allow for all three. 
• At the license agreement click I Accept.

• If asked Do you want to allow restartserver or toolserver to accept incoming connections? click Allow for both. 

Obtaining a TopSpin License in macOS

• Click Request a free Academic License which will bring you to a login page.

• If you don't have an account click Register.
  • Enter the required information and click Register. 
  • Open your email and look for a message from no-rely@web.bruker.com.
  • Click on the link to email address verification.
  • Once the email has been verified go back to your web browser and click the back button.
  • If you don't see a login page Click the link to restart the login process. 
• Login with the username and password.
• Scroll down and click Request Academia License.
• Copy the License Key. 
• Go back to Topspin and click on Install License Ticket.
• Paste the License Key into the Ticket Field and click Next.
• Click Activate Licenses. 
• Choose I want my licenses on one Computer. 

• Click Activate Selected Licenses Now.
• When complete click OK.
• Click Exit.
• Open Topspin again from the Applications Folder. 
• Click I Accept. 
• If asked if Do you want to allow hconfserver to accept incoming connections click Allow.

 

Windows

Install TopSpin in Windows

• Download TopSpin from here.
• If prompted sign in.
• Click Download when prompted. 
• Go to your Downloads folder and double click on the file Topspin-4.2.0-windows.exe to open it.
• If Prompted with Windows Defender Protected your PC click on More Info and then Run anyway. 
• You will see a command prompt window scrolling through text. 
• When the installer starts click Next. 
• At Selection of Components to Install click Next.
• Click Next at the next two prompts
• Click Yes when asked if you want to create the directory. 
• Select the Setup type you want and click Next.
• When asked for a super user click Next.
• When asked for an NMR administrator password enter NMR in both boxes. Click Next. 
• Click Next.
• Click Yes when asked if you want to create the directory. 
• When asked to Configure the windows firewall automatically click Next and Next again.
• The Installation will begin. 
• When complete click Finish. 
• Launch TopSpin 4.2 from your Desktop
• When prompted click I Accept. 

Obtaining a TopSpin License in Windows

• Click Request a free Academic License which will bring you to a login page.
