Description
Wolfram Mathematica is available to all current faculty, staff, and students. Access is available either to Mathematica online, allowing use of most Mathematica services through a web browser, by downloading Mathematica on a Bowdoin-issued device through the Self Service or Company Portal apps, or by downloading and installing Mathematica onto a personal computer.
Environment
Mathematica Online or Mathematica Desktop for current Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students.
Logging in to Wolfram's Website
Wolfram Mathematica's website uses multi-factor authentication and uses single-sign on. You can access the service either through the Okta login portal at login.bowdoin.edu or you can access the site through Wolfram's website.
If you access Mathematica from Wolfram's website, you will need to enter your Bowdoin email address and check the box to agree to the retention of personal data. Once done, click Continue and you will be taken to your Wolfram account page.
Accessing Mathematica Online
From your Wolfram account page, you can access Mathematica Online by clicking the button that says Go to Mathematica online.
Installing Mathematica on a Bowdoin-issued device
Installing Mathematica on a Bowdoin-issued device is similar to installing other software on the device.
- Locate the software portal for the device you're using.
- For macOS, open the Self Service app
- For Windows, open the Company Portal app
- Search for Mathematica in the list. Once located, click Install
- The software will download and install itself onto the computer. (note: this may take 10-15 minutes or longer, depending on network speeds).
Downloading Mathematica on a personal computer
To download Mathematica on a personal, non-Bowdoin computer, click on the button that says Download for desktop. The latest version of Mathematica will download to your computer and can be installed.
Authorizing Mathematica on first-use
The first-time you run Mathematica you will need to log in to authorize it. Instructions are available in the article titled "Authorizing Mathematica on a computer" linked in the "Related Articles" section on this page.
