Setting up another device with Okta to use Okta Verify

Description

  • I got a new phone, how do I set it up with Okta?
  • How can I setup my new phone with Okta Verify?

Environment

When you purchase or receive a new phone or device, and need to setup Okta Verify again.

Note: If you did NOT setup a secondary factor in advance and you're replacing your only device, you may not be able to follow these steps. You must have access to a device that will serve as your 2-factor device in order to add another one.

Resolution

  • Open the Okta End-User Dashboard from your computer at https://login.bowdoin.edu.
  • Click on your name in the upper-right corner.
  • Go to Settings.
  • At Okta Verify, in the Security Methods panel, click "Set up another".
  • You will be asked to authenticate, once authenticated click "Set Up" and you will see a QR code to scan with your new phone in Okta Verify.

Remember to deactivate the old phone. click "Remove" for the device displayed in the Security Methods panel.
