Specific Tool or Application

Summary

Use this request when you already know which teaching- or research-related tool you need help with and you want to use it, configure it, or fix a problem with it.

When to Use This

  • You know the tool — for example Canvas, Panopto, a statistical package, or a discipline-specific application — and want help using a feature.
  • The tool isn't behaving as expected and you want it working.
  • You need it installed, configured, or connected for a course or research task.
  • You want a quick how-to rather than a broader consultation.

When NOT to Use This

  • You want to step back and rethink your overall approach to teaching or research technology. Use one of the consultation offerings instead — Request a Teaching Technology Consultation or Request a Research Technology Consultation.
  • Classroom equipment is down during class. Use Report a Room Technology Issue, and call the Service Desk if you're mid-class.
  • It's a general device, login, email, or network problem unrelated to teaching or research. Use General IT Help or the relevant service.

Before You Submit

Tell us the tool, what you're trying to do, and what's happening, including any error message. A screenshot helps. Note the course or research context if it's relevant.

What Happens Next

Your request is routed to your department's Academic Technology Consultant, who will respond within two business days, and faster when it's a quick fix. If it turns out to need a fuller consultation, we'll move it to the right track and tell you.
