One-Line Summary
Use this request to extend a Bowdoin account for a limited time after someone leaves the college, when there's a genuine need for continued access.
When to Use This
Use this offering when:
- A former employee needs brief continued access within 90 days of departure
- A graduating student has a rare, documented need for access beyond the standard cutoff
You may not need an extension just for email forwarding. Anyone leaving can set an Automatic Reply with instructions on how to reach them or someone else at the college — see the Related Articles section. An extension isn't required for that.
When NOT to Use This
Don't use this offering if:
- You only want an away message — set an Automatic Reply instead (see above)
- You're re-enabling an account for someone returning to work — use Employee Rehire – Enable Account
- The request is for an emeriti account — use Requesting a Bowdoin Emeriti Account
Before You Submit
Have ready:
- The account holder's name and username
- The reason for the extension and how long it's needed
- For students: note that extensions aren't honored until at least October 1 of the graduation year, and access otherwise ends October 31 of that year
What Happens Next
IT reviews the request against the extension guidelines and confirms the outcome. Because extensions are granted only in limited circumstances, move data early where possible rather than relying on an extension.
