Collaborator or Guest Account Requests

Summary

Use this request to have a Bowdoin account created for a research collaborator or guest who isn't employed by the college.

When to Use This

Use this offering when:

  • Someone outside Bowdoin is conducting research or collaborating with a faculty member
  • A visiting scholar or guest needs access to Bowdoin systems

When NOT to Use This

Don't use this offering if:

  • The person is an independent contractor — use Contractor Account Request
  • The person is a Bowdoin employee — use Faculty, Staff, and Student Accounts or Intent to Hire

Before You Submit

Have ready:

  • Full name of the collaborator or guest
  • The supervising faculty member (the responsible collaborator)
  • A description of the account's purpose and work order number
  • Duration of the collaboration — maximum of one year
  • Any special permissions required
One account per person, and it must be requested by the responsible faculty member or department coordinator. If the collaboration ends early, notify IT immediately so the account can be deactivated.

What Happens Next

IT verifies the request with the responsible faculty member or coordinator, creates the account with the approved permissions, and confirms with you.
