What This Request Is For
Use this request to have IT configure a new network printer for your department — connecting it to the campus network, assigning it a name and IP address, and adding it to PaperCut so faculty, staff, and authorized users can print to it.
Faculty and staff only: Printer installation requests must come from a faculty or staff member in the department responsible for the printer.
When to Use This
Use this offering when:
- Your department has received a new printer and needs it connected to the campus network and added to PaperCut
- A previously unnetworked printer needs to be brought onto the campus network for shared departmental use
- Your department wants to replace an existing printer with new hardware and needs the new device configured (use together with Request Printer Retirement for the old device if applicable)
When Not to Use This
Don't use this offering if:
- You want to add an existing networked printer to your Mac or Windows device— that's done through Print Deploy on your own computer; see How to Install or Delete a Bowdoin Printer in the Related Articles section
- You need to move an existing printer to a new location — use Request a Printer Move instead
- A printer is broken or not working — use Report a Printer Problem on this service's main page
Before You Submit
Have the following ready before filling out the form:
- The make and model of the new printer (e.g., Ricoh IM C3000)
- The intended location — building, room number, and whether there is an active network port and power outlet within reach of the printer
- The department name and a project or account code if applicable
- Whether the printer should be accessible to all Bowdoin users or restricted to your department only
Note: IT handles printer purchasing, network configuration and PaperCut setup. If an active network port is not available at the printer's location, additional work may be required — IT will advise on next steps and any associated costs.
What Happens Next
The Service Desk will review your request and reach out within 2–3 business days to confirm the details and schedule configuration. Once the printer is physically in place and a network port is confirmed, IT will complete the network and PaperCut setup. You'll receive the printer's name and instructions for adding it once setup is complete.
