The Media Commons Classroom in the Media Commons is outfitted and designed for a large assortment of classes. It contains all of the technology needed to host or attend an advanced video conference but can also be used as a standard classroom with the ability to view content on any one of 5 screens either one at a time or simultaneously.

Location: Media Commons, Basement of Hawthorne-Longfellow Library.
Hours: Open during Library hours.
Room Type: Classroom.
Seating Capacity: 1 instructor and 24 students.

Technology

Instructor/Podium Station:

  • Mac Mini providing Mac OS and a virtual Windows operating system.
  • HDMI, USB, and Ethernet Laptop/iPad Hook-up available at instructor's station.
  • 10" Extron Touch Panel (wall recessed next to Instructor Station).
  • Adjustable height podium with wireless keyboard and mouse.
  • A list of software for either operating system can be found here.

A/V Technologies:

  • 3 - 65" wall mounted LED LCD TV's (Main Display/Viewing).
    • Capable of resolutions up to and including 4K.
  • 2 - 85" wall mounted LED LCD TV's (Rear Display/Secondary Viewing).
    • Capable of resolutions up to and including 4K.
  • Extron Interactive Touch Panel Control.
  • Region Free Blu-ray/DVD/CD Player.
    • Note: Located in the AV SmartBox pull-down tray next to instructor's station.
  • Room audio.
  • PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) web camera (wall mounted on far side opposite the instructor station).
  • Vocal reinforcement Instructor:  Yes - Hanging ceiling microphones dispersed throughout the room..
  • Vocal reinforcement Audience:  Yes - Hanging ceiling microphones dispersed throughout the room.

Additional Information:

  • Front center LED panel is also a touch-enabled whiteboard.
  • Classroom recording is available using right side (rear wall) PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) HD camera.
  • Adjustable and dimmable room lighting controlled by a rear-door touch panel or by a touch panel at the front of the room.
