Environment
This article applies to anyone using a Mac. Find My helps locate a Mac if it is lost or stolen, but it must be turned off in certain situations, such as before repairing the device. Signing out of iCloud turns off Find My and removes iCloud-saved data from the Mac.
Resolution
Turn off Find My Mac
- Select the Apple menu and open System Settings.
- Select the Apple Account name at the top left of the window.
- Select iCloud from the list on the right.
- Select See All if Find My Mac is not listed on the page.
- Select Find My Mac, then select Turn Off.
- If prompted, enter your Apple Account password and your computer password.
- Once Find My Mac is turned off, select Done.
Sign out of iCloud
- From the Apple Account page, scroll to the bottom of the list and select the Sign Out button.
- Follow the prompts to sign out of iCloud.
Important: Before making these changes, back up your data. If you are selling or giving away the Mac, sign out of iCloud completely and consider performing a factory reset to remove all personal data from the device.
