Microsoft 365 for Students

Questions

  • What does the free Microsoft 365 license for students include?
  • How many devices can I install Office on as a student?
  • How much OneDrive storage do I get with my Bowdoin account?
  • How do I get and sign in to OneDrive?
  • Can I edit files without Office installed, or work offline?
  • What happens to a OneDrive account I already have?

Environment

This article applies to all Bowdoin students. Bowdoin provides every student a free Microsoft 365 license that includes 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage.

Resolution

What the student license includes

  • Full desktop and web versions of Microsoft Office — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote — plus Teams, OneDrive, Planner, Forms, and more.
  • Install Office on up to five computers and mobile devices.
  • Unlimited access to the Microsoft 365 mobile apps on iPhone, Android, and Windows phones.

OneDrive storage

Your Bowdoin license includes 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage (without the license, OneDrive offers only 5 GB). No installation is needed to use OneDrive on the web — sign in at office365.bowdoin.edu.

  • Sharing: you decide who can access your files.
  • Offline: download files to use them offline, then sync when you reconnect so your online and local versions match.
  • No Office installed? You can view and edit files in any browser using Office for the web.
Already have a OneDrive account? A OneDrive linked to a personal email is not affected by your Bowdoin OneDrive account. If a OneDrive account is associated with your Bowdoin email, contact the Service Desk for guidance.
