Returning a Student or Faculty iPad Kit to Bowdoin

Issue/Question

  • I am transferring away from Bowdoin. How can I return my iPad, keyboard and pencil?
  • I am not returning to Bowdoin, what do I need to do to return my iPad to the college?

Environment

The student technology initiative provided iPad "kits" to students beginning in the fall of 2020. It also provided iPad kits to any active faculty who requested one.

Students may keep their iPad upon successful graduation from Bowdoin. If they leave at any time before graduation, the iPads must be reset and the full kit, including all peripherals, must be returned to IT.

Faculty who were provided an iPad for teaching must reset and return their iPad when they leave the college.

Resolution

Each iPad must be in good condition, be reset and then returned to Information Technology with all peripherals, including charger and USB-C charging cable. The steps below will outline the tasks that need to be completed before the iPad is returned. Once the reset procedure has taken place, all items should be packaged well and shipped to the address below.

Reset Procedures

Each iPad must be reset before being returned, following the outline of steps below. If you have difficulty following these steps, please contact the Service Desk via chat by clicking the chat icon in the lower-right of the screen.

  • Sign out of iCloud on the device.
    • Open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID at the top of the page.
    • Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out
    • Enter your Apple ID Password and then tap Turn Off in the upper-right corner of the page.
  • Erase all Content and Settings
    • Open the Settings app
    • Tap General
    • Scroll down and tap Reset
    • Tap Erase All Content and Settings
    • Follow any on-screen prompts to finalize the erase.
    • If done correctly, the iPad will restart itself.

Shipping Information

Once erased, collect the iPad, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard, the iPad's USB-C Charger and the USB-C Charging cable and package them for shipping. The original iPad box is not necessary, just be sure to package them well with bubble wrap and other packing materials.

Be sure to include a note letting us know your full name and email address so we make sure we know who the device is coming back from.
