Teams Calling: Call forwarding and Also ring features

You can setup call forwarding and also ring (which simultaneously rings another line when you are called) in Teams

Step-by-step guides

Call Forwarding - forward calls to your Teams number directly to Voice mail, another person in the Bowdoin directory or a specified phone number.

Teams app on the computer

  1. Click on the three horizontal dots next to your account icon in the upper right corner of the Teams app window.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Calls.
  4. Click on Forward my calls.
  5. Select one of the following options: Voicemail, New number or contact option, or Call group.
    1. Selecting Voicemail will send calls directly to Voicemail.
    2. Selecting New number or contact will allow you to add another Bowdoin or non-Bowdoin number. You can search for other Bowdoin faculty and staff by name. If you want to enter a non-Bowdoin number, remember to include ta 1 and the area code.

Teams physical phone

  1. Tap on your account icon (circle with your initials in it) in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Tap on Settings.
  3. Tap on Calling.
  4. Tap Call forwarding to turn forwarding on and off. If forwarding is turned on it will display where the calls are forwarded to.
  5. Tap on Forward to, to change the forwarding setup. There are two forwarding options; Voicemail or Contact or number.
    1. Selecting Voicemail will send calls directly to Voicemail.
    2. Selecting Contact or number will allow you to chose a contact from the directory or manually enter a number. Remember to include the area code.

Teams app on a smart phone

  1. Open the Teams app on your phone.
  2. Tap on your account icon (circle with your initials in it) in the upper left of the app.
  3. Tap on Settings.
  4. Tap on Calling.
  5. Tap on the switch next to Call forwarding to turn the feature on (or off).
  6. You will have two options for Forwarding; Voicemail, which is the default selection, and Contact or number. Tap on Contact or number.
  7. When you select Contact or number you may be prompted to allow Teams to access your Contacts. This is the contacts on your phone and in most cases you will want to decline to share that data. Teams already has the Bowdoin directory so you can search for people by name or enter a number in manually.
  8. Select the person you want to forward the calls to from the directory or type in the number starting with 1 and then the area code (ie. 1207725300).

Also ring - The Also ring setting will ring another phone number besides yours when you receive a call.

  2. Click on Calls.
  3. Click on the drop down menu next to Also ring (No one else, will be the default option).
  4. Select a New number or contact, a Call group or No one else.
    1. A New number or contact will allow you to add someone from the Bowdoin directory or manually enter a number. Remember to include a 1 before the area code when adding a number manually (ie. 1207725300).
    2. Call groups are used when a call needs to go to a designated group of numbers for a specific purpose. You can create a call group by by selecting Call group from the drop down list and then adding the people you wish to be part of the group. You can even manage the order that they are called.

    2. Enter a number manually to use a non-Bowdoin number. Don't forget to include a 1 before the area code when adding a number manually (ie. 12077253000).

  5. Tap on Contact or number.
