Returning Bowdoin-issued Student Laptop


  • I am transferring away from Bowdoin. How can I return my Bowdoin-issued laptop?
  • I am not returning to Bowdoin, what do I need to do to return my laptop to the college?


Students may keep their Bowdoin-issued laptop, as part of the Digital Excellence Commitment, upon successful graduation from Bowdoin. If they leave at any time before graduation, the laptops must be reset and the full kit, including all accessories, must be returned to IT.


Each lapop must be in good condition, be reset and then returned to Information Technology with all peripherals, including charger and USB-C charging cable. The steps below will outline the tasks that need to be completed before the laptop is returned. Once the reset procedure has taken place, all items should be packaged well and shipped to the address below.

Reset Procedures

Each laptop must be reset before being returned, following the outline of steps below. If you have difficulty following these steps, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.

  • Sign out of iCloud on the device (if applicable)
    • Click on the  and System Settings. Click on your Apple ID at the top of the page.
    • Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out
    • You may be asked to keep copies of data local. You can simply choose "Keep copy". The computer will be erased once received by IT.
  • Erase all Content and Settings
    • Click on the  and System Settings
    • Tap General
    • Scroll down and click Transfer or Reset
    • Click Erase All Content and Settings...
    • Follow any on-screen prompts to finalize the erase.
    • If done correctly, the laptop will restart itself.

Shipping Information

If you a student leaves Bowdoin before dropping off their technology, they will need to ship the item(s) back to campus.

Once erased, collect the laptop, the laptop's USB-C Charger and the USB-C Charging cable and package them for shipping. The original laptop box is not necessary, just be sure to package them well with bubble wrap and other packing materials.

Be sure to include a note letting us know your full name and email address so we make sure we know who the device is coming back from.
