Information

In order to access many Bowdoin resources and services including accessing Microwave storage, from off campus, VPN software must be used. Before you begin, ensure that:

  • The GlobalProtect VPN software is installed on your mobile device.
  • You have your Okta Verify factor available (usually your smart phone)

Environment

  • iPads or iPhones with the GlobalProtect VPN software already installed.
  • All Bowdoin faculty, staff, students, and any guest provided VPN access.

Using GlobalProtect in iPadOS / iOS

The following steps will guide you through starting GlobalProtect and connecting to Bowdoin.

NOTE: These steps will only work while away from campus. You will receive an error message if you try to use the VPN while on campus.

    • On the What's your portal address? screen, type in remoteaccess.bowdoin.edu and tap Connect
    • When told that GlobalProtect would like to add VPN Configurations, tap Allow

    • Tap Connect. GlobalProtect will obtain additional configuration settings from Bowdoin's VPN servers.
  • To connect to VPN once configured and on subsequent uses of the app, tap the shield icon on the screen.

Remember that you can't connect while connected to the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless networks. You will not receive an error message, however you won't be able to connect to the VPN.

  • Once the app connects, you will be prompted to log in using your Bowdoin username, password, and Okta verification.
  • If successful, the icon will change to have a green dot indicating you are now connected.
