This article provides answers to the following questions:

  • How can I record a meeting or class using Panopto Express?
  • What tools and setup are needed for recording in a classroom with a PTZ camera?
  • How do I save the recordings using my Bowdoin credentials?

Environment

This guidance applies to situations where:

  • The meeting or class is held in a classroom equipped with a PTZ camera.
  • The camera is connected to the instructor's computer.
  • The instructor's computer has Microsoft Edge or Chrome installed as web browsers.
  • To save in Panopto, customers need to access Panopto with their Bowdoin username and password after a recording has finished.

Resolution

Follow these steps to record a meeting or class with Panopto Express:

  1. Open the browser on the instructor's computer. You must use Microsoft Edge or Chrome. If you use Safari, you will receive a message that the browser is not compatible.
  2. Visit the Panopto Express website by typing in the web address in the browser's address bar. (https://www.panopto.com/record-now/)
  3. Ensure that the PTZ camera is connected and recognized by the computer. This is typically done by checking the camera input settings on Panopto Express.
  4. Set up your recording by selecting the PTZ camera as the video source. Make sure your microphone or audio source is also selected if you want to capture sound.
    1. When you select a camera or the microphone for the first time, the web browser will ask for you to provide permissions. You must say yes in order to have access to the devices.
  5. Begin your recording by clicking the 'Record' button on the Panopto Express interface.
  6. Conduct your meeting or class as usual. During the recording, you can select additional screens to share/record, change cameras or microphones, etc.
  7. When finished, click the 'Stop' button to end the recording.
  8. Save your recording. You can save to Panopto by logging in with your Bowdoin username and password, YouTube, or you can download the recording locally.
