Environment

Supervisor hiring a new employee.

General Overview

Information Technology (IT) receives information about all new hires once all of their paperwork is completed with HR and they've officially been hired. As part of the new hire process within IT, the position is evaluated to determine if it is eligible for technology such as a laptop and monitor. If the position is determined to be eligible for technology, someone from the Service Desk will reach out to the hiring manager asking for the new employee's platform preference, either macOS or Windows. From there, the technology is purchased and will be provided during onboarding.

NOTE: IT doesn't keep a lot of technology in stock and purchasing computers can take 2-3 weeks. If the new employee and the supervisor don't complete all of the HR paperwork early enough, a laptop may not be available when they start. If this is going to be the case, we ask that supervisors complete an Intent to Hire form, letting IT know there's a planned new hire and the process can be started without waiting to complete all the necessary paperwork.

Technology Eligibility

Not all employees or positions qualify for new technology. In some cases this is based on the new employee's role with the college, and others depend on the type of position. Each new hire is managed on a case-by-case basis. Most casual employees are not eligible for new technology however if the position requires the use of a computer in a non-shared work space, then a loaner device may be available. Service Desk staff will work with the supervisor on what their options are.
