Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff who recently transferred their data to a new or replacement iPhone and are now experiencing issues accessing their Bowdoin email in Apple's Mail app.

  • Device: iPhone running a current version of iOS
  • Email app: Apple Mail (not the Microsoft Outlook app)

Resolution

After transferring data from one iPhone to another, email account credentials often need to be re-entered. The steps below address the most common fix. If the account is already present in Mail Settings, start at step 1. If the account is missing entirely, skip to the last step.

  1. Open the Settings app on your new iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps.
  3. Scroll down or search for Mail and tap it.
  4. Tap Mail Accounts.
  5. If your Bowdoin account is listed, tap it. You should be prompted to sign in again — entering your credentials typically resolves the issue.
  6. If your Bowdoin account is not listed, follow the full setup steps in Set up Apple's Mail app for iPhone or iPad in the Related Articles section.
Tip: If the steps above do not resolve the issue, restart your iPhone and confirm you have a working internet connection, then try again. If the problem persists, contact the Service Desk.
